Charity status confirmed
We are delighted to announce that we are now registered as a Charitable Community Benefit Society (FCA registration: 9815).
What does this mean?
Gift Aid -
Crucially, we are now eligible to receive a 25% boost from donations and membership fees, through gift aid. From 8th July 2026, any donations or membership fees paid provided to our organisation is eligible for gift aid. Any members who transferred over from Middleton Towers Railway Station CIC are unfortunately not eligible to top up their membership fee with a gift aid donation.
We will be updating our website to add a gift aid option, which will direct donors to a gift aid form.
We are able to claim 25p for every £1 you donate, through gift aid. Donors may be eligible for tax relief on their donations. More information can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid
Further benefits:
We are now exempt from any tax on the following:
Capital gains tax (if used for charitable purposes);
Business rates relief, mandatory 80% relief and potentially up to 100% through King's Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council;
Investment income, including incoming from overseas investments;
Bank & building society interest.
Conclusion
Becoming a charitable society will allow us to significantly improve our chances when applying for grants, gift aid on donations will greatly boost our fundraising abilities and solidifies our commitments to being a non-profit organisation.
As always, thank you for your support.
